What is this product?
What are the directions for use?
Adult & elderly Initially, 100 mg once daily taken approx 30 min-12 hr before sexual activity. Dose may be increased to 200 mg.
May be taken with or without food.
What is the list of contraindications?
Severe CV disorders. Patients with previous episode of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Severe hepatic impairment, hypotension, HTN, recent history of stroke or MI, hereditary degenerative retinal disorders eg, retinitis pigmentosa. Co-administration w/ nitric oxide donors, organic nitrates or nitrites. Neonates, childn, women.
Special Precautions
A medical history & physical exam should be undertaken to diagnose erectile dysfunction & determine potential underlying causes & identify appropriate treatment. Consider CV status. Discontinue use in the event of sudden loss of vision or deafness. Patient w/ increase susceptibility to vasodilators (aortic stenosis, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy) or those w/ multiple system atrophy. Anatomical penile deformation (angulation, cavernosal fibrosis or Peyronie's disease), conditions which may predispose to priapism (sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma or leukaemia). May affect ability to drive or operate machinery.
What are the possible side effects?
Flushing, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, eye redness, dyspepsia, nasal congestion.
What are the substences this drug may interact with?
Nitric oxide, organic nitrates or nitrites; ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, indinavir, cimetidine, erythromycin, grapefruit juice; dexamethasone, rifampin, anticonvulsants. Nitroglycerin, amlodipine besylate, α-blockers, omeprazole.
